Mountains & Monday

It’s almost 3 a.m. on a Monday and I am back from my first (unexpected) night out in Mataró. It was completely unplanned. There’s another au pair here from Indiana, so we were going to meet for drinks to plan our first trip to Barcelona. The bar we were supposed to meet at was closed, so we decided to walk around. The usually populated strip was empty, so empty there could’ve been western tumble weeds rolling across the plaza. Instead, we walked past some people who seemed about out age and stopped the locals to see where we could grab a drink. They turned out to be an interesting mix (one dubs in Catalan and recently dubbed the new Star Wars, one from Germany, one from Uruguay, and another native Catalonian). We joined their group at a little Italian restaurant. After a few glasses of delicious lambrusco, we shut down the place and moved along to a little bar, and eventually a rooftop with a cava-popping (cava is like champagne) mini concert.

It was definitely interesting.

Over the weekend I went to Montsereff in the mountains and went camping with the family, who was gracious enough to invite me and make it a wonderful weekend. Here are some of the photos of the breathtaking scenery, which I was lucky enough to soak up during the day, and up up to in the morning.

The amazing chefs!

The trip also featured some homemade artwork aka paella. It was delicious! Topped off with some cava and it was truly an unforgettable mountain experience.
