Update

When I found a few blogs I liked, I began reading them habitually. I would sit at the kitchen table with lunch and scroll through posts. It became a ritual. I would always be slightly annoyed when the blog wasn’t updated to accompany my afternoon sandwich (I mean, what could someone possibly be doing with their lives besides updating their blog for my enjoyment!?! ) After starting my own blog, I’ve realized that it can be quite difficult to set time aside for yourself to write. I spent one week attending a language school in the morning and then spending time with the kids in the afternoon. When I finally hit my bed, I didn’t want to write. I wanted to read or catch up with friends. Anyhow, last week went by quickly, which left me little time to write. So here we go….

My Florida family complete with aunts, uncles, and cousins were visiting Italy. They also headed south to Calabria to visit our extended family. I was fortunate enough to meet up with them and see the town my grandparents grew up in. Though my stay was brief, the beauty of Castagna (their mountain town) had a lasting impression on me.
I left for Naples Thursday and of course with my luck the plane was delayed for four hours, so I missed my connecting train down to Lamezia Terme. I spent the night in Naples and dined alone with some Peroni and pasta.
My three hour train ride Friday morning was also delayed, turning it into six hours….(never travel with me). When I finally saw my family by the afternoon, I was ecstatic! We went to our cousins house on the tippy top of the fog-covered mountains and had an amazing dinner full of pasta, sopressata, pancetta, bread, hot peppers, heineken, and god knows what else. I could barely move.
Their house was beautiful, and the setting sunlight only accentuated the scenery.

Saturday it poured, hailed, and the power went out. We did venture out shortly to see the “town”, which consisted of a ten minute lap around the area. We also headed to a small restaurant outside of town and had a three course feast of pasta, meat, vegetables, salad, and lots of wine.
I left early on Sunday to catch my train to Naples and plane to Barcelona. Luckily, I only had a one hour delay in the airport, but the rest of the trip was smooth!
Last night (Tuesday), we celebrated St. Peter’s. The whole neighborhood that lives on St. Peter’s street essentially had dinner together. The entire street was connected with tables covered in food and drinks that all the families brought. There were fireworks, a live band, and little creatures running around as well.
