A few weeks ago, I made my second trip ever to the Midwest for Easter weekend. Although it’s fun making new traditions in San Diego, I think that during that being with family, close friends, and the like makes the holiday feel more real.
Last year, my friends hosted an Easter brunch. For some reason, I volunteered to cook the ham and green bean casserole. Of course when it came time to spend the morning with my head in the over, I ended up having a bout of the Irish flu from the night before. Not enjoyable…

Anyhow, I didn’t have any expectations of what Missouri would be like. Frankly, I had no clue what to expect. Whenever I think of the Midwest, I think of fields. Lots and lots of fields with nothing around but corn. Kinda like where I grew up in upstate New York. I’d never been to St. Louis before, so I was excited to explore another city.

I didn’t realize that we’d be slightly outside of the city, so I didn’t get to see the famous arch or any other touristy sites. Are there other touristy sites in St. Louis??? Regardless, the area was beautiful. Spring was in full bloom with green grass and flowering trees everywhere.

Even though I didn’t see the arch, I did get to see Innsbrook–a lovely little village by the lake. We spent the day hiking, eating, and enjoying the sunshine.
With our bellies were full of lunch, we headed to Cedar Lake Cellars, a nearby winery. While I don’t think Missouri is exactly known for their wine, the scenery couldn’t have been more picturesque.

The nearby pond featured white swans floating lazily in the water, while the picnic tables were spread everywhere so you could enjoy the sun. There was even a small, wooden stage for live music. Unfortunately, we’d just missed the band, but caught the beginning of a wedding instead.

Though my trip to St. Lous was short, it was very sweet and a place I’d definitely like to return.
