Okay, so my blog title doesn’t have a lot to do with my actual post aside from the fact that I ate my weight in oysters this past weekend. And chowder. Give me all the oysters and chowder. If you’re a Game of Thrones junkie like I am though, you’ll get the reference.

This past weekend–err 5 days–I headed back to the North East to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend and of course, Jack’s birthday. Despite the sleeping aid I took to get me through the red eye, I was wide awake for most of the ride. I watched The Hate U Give for a chunk of the trip and truly enjoyed it. I’d recently read the book, so I was excited to see it on-screen. While parts of it can be a little corny, I definitely think it’s an important book to read, and if you’re not the literary type, watch the movie.

After a plane, two buses, a train, and a brief stop in Providence I made it to Newport, Rhode Island. I can imagine the city not being fantastic during winter, but at this time of year it was beautiful. The city center was full of people heading to the shops or enjoying drinks on the water.

My first stop was at The Black Pearl for a bowl of homemade clam chowdah and fresh oystahs. It wouldn’t be my last either.
Friday

On Friday, we went to the Cliff Walk. The path started down by the ocean and curved alongside rows of mansions overlooking the water. It was a sunny, clear day and these pictures don’t do the blue water justice. We traipsed around in the sunshine for a couple hours and enjoyed the views. (Also had ANOTHER bowl of chowder if you want to count)

Later in the day, we headed to Boston for a small, surprise birthday dinner. We started on the rooftop at Legal Harborside, enjoying a few drinks and the surrounding sights. Our dinner was on the first floor, which is a little more casual, but delicious nonetheless.
Saturday

We woke up in Boston on Saturday and decided to get right after it. I made brunch reservations at Row 34–where I initially wanted to go for dinner but it was booked up. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. Of course, we had oysters, but the lobster tacos, deviled eggs, and tuna crudo were fantastic as well.

With our tummies satisfied, we rented bikes and spent the day exploring the city. I’d been to Boston quite a bit before, but never on bike. I loved biking around through the hustle and bustle downtown. We made some stops along the way including at the National Historical Park and USS Constitution.
Sunday

Okay, so we were kind of ambitious in thinking we could do a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. It turns out that MV is quite far from Newport, especially when it comes time to hop on the ferry. We opted for Cape Cod instead and drove around until we found a town that looked nice. This town was Hyannis. In pursuit of rollerblade or kayak rentals, we stumbled upon Baxter’s Boathouse instead and had a lovely lunch on the water.

We never did find kayaks and realized we were on the opposite side of the cape, so the rollerblading trail was a bust. In lieu of being super active, we went to Kalmus Beach and fell asleep in the sun until we woke up freezing in the shade.
Monday
My trip felt nice and long, so by the time Monday came I was confused to be leaving. We did so much! There was still so much to see! But alas, I had to hop on the plane.
Thankfully, my flight wasn’t until that night, so we could get another day of Newport in. Monday definitely didn’t go to waste. We started off with brunch at the Hungry Monkey and then rented scoot coupes.

Now, you might look at this funny little vehicle and not think much of it, but it’s a BLAST. We zigzagged through Ocean Drive passing the blue waters and insane mansions along the way.

Now here I am, back in San Diego with June gloom in full effect, wishing I was back in the briny breeze of Newport!
