Spring Me Baby One More Time

Wow! I almost had a perfect streak going this year with one blog a month (minus April). It’s not much, but it’s honest work.

The past couple of months feel like they have flown by. Winter up North always feels like such a slow drag, then once the first sunny day of Spring hits. BOOM! It’s already Labor Day, and you are wondering where the time went.

While we still have a month of Spring left, I thought I would share the highlights so far.

Adopting Avy

I think I mentioned in a previous blog that we have been fostering cats from The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. It was a bummer saying goodbye to our first foster, Tigger. We had a two-week gap of heartbreak before this little nugget came into our lives.

At the time, Avalon (named by the shelter) was a six-month ball of energy and love. It took about a week for us to decide that Avy was 100% that kit that we wanted to keep forever. So we did!

Since then, she has been riding our shoulders every day, playing fetch with her favorite toy orange, and wiggling her way further into our hearts.

My grandparents came to town!

A couple of years ago, when I was living in San Diego, my grandparents visited me after a cross-country trip from Florida to visit my cousin in Alaska, then down to me. This year, they took a similar trip, meeting my cousin and her family in Arizona, then heading up to Maine to see me. Yes, I know that is a lot of driving, and no, they will not be taking a plane anytime soon.

Though it was still pretty chilly (and they happened to visit on the coldest weekend of Spring), we managed to have a fun week, exploring Portland, the local lighthouses, the Maritime Museum, and Peak’s Island. I highly suggest renting golf carts to rip around Peak’s Island if you are ever in the area. Bikes would work too!

Boston x 2

We went to Boston to visit friends twice so far this year, and neither time disappointed. It is always great to catch up with people you haven’t seen in a while. This feeling is especially true after this past year of isolation. I think that a lot of us have been more appreciative of our family, friends, and the presence of people physically around us. I know I have simply missed giving people a hug hello without worrying or thinking twice.

Of course, we spent most of the time in Boston eating and drinking. What else is there to do when the weather gets this nice!

The start of wedding season

We FINALLY attended our first wedding since 2019, and started off the season strong. Everything was beautiful and it was a ton of fun meeting more of Jack’s friends. Buuuuuut, I mostly included this to show us off, looking all spiffy and dressed up for the first time in ages. So, enjoy.

My mom also came to visit!

Though it was a quick couple of days, we made the most walking all around Portland, enjoying the beautiful weather that finally came out to play. We also enjoyed some delicious food outside, now that all the street dining is open for the season. The outdoor seating has definitely been one of the highlights of the past year. It is SO much nicer than being cooped up inside.

There have been many other great, not-so-great, fun, exciting, weird, and challenging this that happened this Spring, but that’s it for now!
