And on the final installment of our neverending honeymoon…Kruger National Park! Okay, we did have one more stop after, but I’ll get to that later. If you’re new here, you can start at the beginning of our adventure to South Africa.
We started our first full day in Jo'burg at Nelson Mandela's house in Soweto, a township created in the 1930s by the white South African government to push black citizens into a separated community away from whites and Indians. It was also the site of the Soweto Rebellion, where residents started protesting against the enforcement of the Afrikaans language (A Dutch, not native language) in schools. By the way, I am by no means doing the history of Soweto, apartheid, and the constant turmoil in South African justice with my watered-down summary, so if you have time, I'd highly recommend doing some research on your own.
Welcome to our last full day in Cape Town! We had a very early start and headed to Shift Espresso for a quick breakfast before a two-hour drive to Hermanus for our next adventure, great white shark cage diving! Though the drive was long, it was very scenic, especially because we took the mostly coastal route, winding along the Indian Ocean. I will say, if you get car sick pretty easily, it might be a bit tough for you. I'm not going to get into how crazy driving can be in South Africa yet, but let's just say it's speedy and unforgiving.
It is wild to me that I have been married for six months. But, this milestone felt like a good time to share our honeymoon, especially since I've had so many people share with me that they're planning on going to South Africa or have always wanted to go.
